In the Summer of 1975, The Miller and McClelland families started a Mountain Shop specializing in backpacking, hiking, climbing, tennis and fly fishing. One of George McClelland’s real passions, fly fishing, was well positioned in the shop, living where the now famous Rock/Ice/Mountaineering section of our store is. Fly Fishing has always been a part of the heritage of The Mountaineer and we take pride in this fact, continuing in the tradition of offering equipment for Adirondack Fly anglers pursuing Trout, Bass and Pike in the waters local to the Keene and Keene Valley area. Upstairs now, you will find curated Fly Fishing products from the best vendors in the business, providing you with top-quality, honestly priced gear. The next time you are in the shop, take a walk upstairs and see where the Fly Fishing Loft is…and connect even more with the 40+ year history of The Mountaineer, which has always included Fly Fishing.

A few years ago, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard said that their Fly Fishing division needed to focus and do it “right” or don’t do it at all. Well, they’ve delivered. Laser focused designs for the Fresh and Saltwater Angler…Patagonia waders, accessories and layering systems work to keep you out in all conditions fishing more comfortably and efficiently. A long time partner with Patagonia, The Mountaineer is proud to work with this division of the brand and bring our customers some of the simplest and most innovative designs in the industry. We carry Patagonia waders, packs and accessories as well clothing and layering systems.

Galvan fly reels are the result of 20 years of dedicated design and innovation. More than that, they are part of an ongoing tradition of family-run business, American-made products, and time-honored craftsmanship built into every reel they make. The industry has changed a lot in Galvan’s time, but it’s what hasn’t changed that makes us who they are. We carry the Rush Light, Brookie and Torque series from Galvan.

Loon is our main supplier of all things fishing “tool” related. Hemostats, nippers, floatant, sink-paste, scissors and gear repair. Loon Outdoor is all about fishing with a conscience. They ascribe to the value of taking care of the water we fish. Loon develops products with these values in mind and makes sure they are safe for fish, fisheries, and anglers, without ever compromising quality or performance. By offering reusable and biodegradable weights and indicators, Loon makes sure lost tackle doesn’t harm wildlife. Floatants, sinkets and cleaners are solvent-free and consist of water-soluble components that perform without polluting the water. Loon products will always allow anglers to fish with a (clear) conscience.

At Fishpond, they have a passion for creating products that stretch the boundaries of traditional product design and set new standards for functionality. Fishpond is headquartered under the peaks of the Colorado Rockies, which provides them with the perfect testing ground for their new product designs. The land and water there inspire them to focus on rugged construction and enable them to evaluate the performance they build into each and every one of their products. As they enter their second decade, their commitment to the customer remains unchanged. To that point, many of the products Fishpond makes use industrial nylon waste and turns it into the super strong 1680D Ballistic Nylon they use on their “Cyclepond” products. We carry a wide assortment of Fishpond packs, vests, slings, waist packs, tools and accessories.
