Mountaineer's Take: The Switchback fills the need
for a simple, lightweight tele touring binding. Like the
BD 01 and 7tm Power Tour, the Switchback features a switch
that allows the skier to change from ski mode to free-pivot
climbing mode, like an AT ski. The free-pivot eliminates
the need to bend the bellows of the boot when skinning,
saving energy and keeping the tip afloat in soft snow.
Unlike the 01 and Power Tour, the Switchback is only
slightly heavier than a standard tele binding, and it
won't overpower lighter-weight boots. Perfect for a boot
like the T2 or Syner-G, or for anyone who prefers a
neutral binding to an active binding.
Weight (measured at the Mountaineer): 3lbs 1oz
Detailed Sizing: 27.5 and under fits short,
27.5 and up fits standard in all cases. If your boot is
very large (around 31 or US 13) you might need a long !
